Popular Questions About Gastric Sleeve Surgery

What is a Gastric Sleeve?

Gastric sleeve surgery is a laparoscopic procedure (or keyhole surgery) where the the surgeon dissects around 75% of your stomach and the remainder of the stomach is shaped like a small banana. Your stomach is made significantly smaller and so it will take much less food to make you feel full.

However, like all weight loss surgery a Gastric Sleeve is a tool to help you lose weight and not an immediate fix. It takes a great deal of research and discipline to be able to follow the post op diet and then introduce your own healthy diet to maintain your weight loss. But the results can be life changing.

We’re here to help you understand what is involved with gastric sleeve surgery, how it happens and how it can help you lose weight.

How do I qualify for a Gastric Sleeve?

For this procedure, your BMI needs to be 35 or above. However, if your BMI is slightly lower and you have been heavier in the past the surgeon may still accept you subject to your medical questionnaire and history.

How long does it take to recover from a Gastric Sleeve?

The surgery itself takes around 1-2 hours to perform. Our patients normally leave the clinic 3 days after gastric sleeve surgery. Return to work varies from one to three weeks depending on the type of work. No heavy lifting (more than 10lbs) is allowed for four to six weeks after surgery.

How long does it take to lose weight with a Gastric Sleeve?

Most gastric sleeve patients lose up to 60% of their excess weight in a year and up to 70% of it in two years. However the exact speed and loss varies person to person.

In our experience, most people have lost weight before their return to the UK. Some people can lose up to a stone per month. It is very important you are mentally prepared for this procedure.

Your eating habits will change from three meals a day to five smaller meals a day. With portion sizes not exceeding 100 grams per meal. If you over eat you will run the risk of stretching your sleeve so portion control is vital.

There will of course be many questions that you will want to ask and information you will want to read that I will supply to you before you make a decision.

How much does Gastric Sleeve surgery cost?

£4299.

Our weight loss surgeries cost much less than you would pay in the UK. All our surgeries are performed at a state of the art clinic in the Czech Republic, where it is much cheaper to practice medicineConsequently, we can offer you the same high quality treatment you would find in the UK at a much more affordable price.

Prices may vary depending on each individual’s personal needs and according to their travel and accommodation arrangements. Please contact us for more information and we will be able to give you a quote for the procedure.
